Role Vs. Character

Updated: Nov 26, 2021

The real heart of the matter. . .

Your role could be the position you have in your family (Wife, Mother, Husband), your job (Manager, Employee), your church (Leader, Coordinator).

Your character is the moral or ethical qualities of you as an individual.

Are there times when your role is in direct conflict with your character?

Are there moments when the core of who you are causes a struggle with what you do?

Do you sometimes wrestle with a response or wish you had a narrator?

Who could tell you exactly how to maneuver through?

We are all faced with conflicts in our lives at some point

And it is how we respond to those moments that matter

One thing that is helpful and never seems to disappoint

Is keeping emotions out of the situation to eliminate extra chatter

When sticking to the facts, the role and the character become quite clear

And then the conflict between the two begins to dissipate

As keeping a ‘strictly business’ approach actually helps one’s spirit to hear

The best way to present, respond, or govern the conversation and keep it great

So, when you find yourself in a situation that seems rather conflicting

Take a deep breath, and take a moment for a quick prayer break

Then you will find that the things that seemed overly constricting

Just required that the core of who you are to be more alert and awake

Question for Reflection: Can my heart live with the decisions made?

The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. ~Romans 13:12-14 (NKJV)
