Sometimes things just get kind of overwhelming with the News, family, missed deadlines, personal dreams and aspirations, and of course failures. Any one of these can be a lot to bear individually, but collectively, they can drain you and make you feel like if one more thing comes your way, you might break. We’ll get to that ‘break’ in another post, “Restore Freshness” but for now, let’s look at when we need to Push Through.
Our best defense against distractions is to eliminate the ones you can and plan for intentional mini breaks. Put the phone in another room on Do Not Disturb (so if there is an emergency, back to back calls will trigger a notification), turn the television off and if some background noise is needed, play some instrumental music.
Plan things like reading emails (2-3 times a day for about 30 minutes). Plan a 5-10-minute break on YouTube or scrolling Social Media 2-3 times a day. Get up from your work and do a 5-minute walk to the restroom, grab a snack, or even do a couple of squats, something to keep the body moving.
Pushing through requires putting in the effort to eliminate those things that you like, but do not add value in achieving the tasks at hand.
Why is it so easy to believe the negative stuff, but not the positive stuff? If you are learning to ride a motorcycle, they tell you “Everyone goes down” but why does this have to be the case? If High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, and High Cholesterol runs in your family, they tell you that you can’t avoid it. I have seen otherwise. If you are trying to defeat debt, they tell you everyone has certain debt as if no one is debt free. It’s time to purge the Limiting Beliefs and start some new ways of thinking. Choose to be the anomaly and defy the odds. Change your lifestyle so you do not inherit High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, or High Cholesterol just because it runs in your family. Choose to review safety precautions and practice so if you do go down on your motorcycle, it is no fault of your own. Create a debt reduction plan that includes your Student Loans and your Mortgage and prove that not everyone has to live with those debts. Break the mold and stop accepting the box mentality as the only mentality that is acceptable.
Pushing through calls for a self-reflective look and deciding to be different than what has been in order to achieve what has not yet been achieved by you.
When those negative thoughts infiltrate and penetrate, you begin to believe them and let them control you. To prepare for them, whether they are started by you, or infused by someone else, practice positive speaking. Whatever thought comes into your mind that is destructive, depresses enthusiasm, or seems to revoke hope, spin it around into a constructive boost to self-esteem, energy, and creativity. Don’t settle for the box mentality but allow “limitless reliefs” to permeate and dispel the negativity in order to allow room for the positive. Settling is no longer an option, being the exception is.
Pushing through requires putting in the work to short-circuit the pessimism and lay it to rest so the optimism can take its rightful place building, motivating, inspiring and transforming into greater.
Pushing through is a choice that is made repeatedly with every opposing thought, habit, or circumstance in order to see the light and speak life.
Pushing through is a decision to put action behind an idea and turn defeatist attitudes into positive results.
Pushing through is wisdom to know when it is time to close that book of depression and let down and start a new book of possibility and opportunity.
Pushing through is recognizing when it is time to Start Over and Be Purposeful in order to walk life out with God and His plans instead of waiting for life to walk out of you.
Be on guard; stand firm in your faith [in God, respecting His precepts and keeping your doctrine sound]. Act like [mature] men and be courageous; be strong.
