Mindset and Motivation

Updated: Nov 26, 2021

If you really believe that you can, can't you?

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT) - “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

The mind is a funny thing, it has so much power, you see

For if it has determined it will, and it shall; watch as it calls it all to be

Now this isn’t magic or make believe, but fact

For if the mind has determined that it won’t, that’s a stance that is surely backed

The mind can carry the momentum that is needed, as long as it believes

It will keep going and going, through obstacles and hurdles, just like the energizer bunny

The mind can override the body and create a new routine that becomes the norm

The mind can respond with such resilience, it’s proven, despite how weary or forlorn

When the mind gives up on a thing, it takes a miracle to change it, you know?

Think about those relationships, those diets, those books that are now on the shelf for show

When the mind decided that relationship was over, the journey to the end began

When the mind checked out on the diets and exercise, all of the weight resumed its morbid plan

Motivation is driven by a short-term goal, that doesn’t always carry a lot of weight

For once that short-term goal is achieved, typically all of that motivation begins to deflate

The excitement is gone, the energy has dwindled, and now you need a refresher

Unless that short-term plan was long enough to create a habit from the short-lived pressure

If a habit was formed that prevents the boomerang effect from happening

If the discipline muscle was strengthened enough to overcome the challenging

If the duration of the new thing was fulfilling and produced enough adrenaline

If there were results that were noticeable enough to fuel the desire to keep peddling

If the habit has the opportunity to be established from the momentum

Then the motivation can carry through the short-term duration

And the new habit, the ingrained discipline, and the will are all aligned

Then, evidence is seen, and results are obtained from a determined mind

Proverbs 23:7a (KJV) – For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:
